I've been reading the threads about starch - appreciative of all the helpful information :-D What is the difference between the canned sizing you can buy and starch? I one preferable over the other?

Magic Sizing doesn't scorch as easily as starch so I use it on light fabrics. It doesn't get as stiff as starch either so if you're just wanting a little body, use sizing. If you want it stiff, use starch. Starch is also cheaper and if you buy the concentrated stuff, you can mix it however you want it. I haven't seen that option in sizing. Seems to be a "one can fits all" thing.

I prefer to use sizing. I can get it for about $1.00 per can at Wal-Mart. I don't have issues with scorching or anything. It just gives the fabric a bit more stiffness. :)

I have been using Niagara sizing, ME's and Niagara starch but I just bought a non-aerosol bottle of Faultless MAXX Starch. Wow, I really like it. It says great for whites and jeans so I tried on my son's jeans and he loved the sharp crease down the front. It must be new as I have never spied it before. DH says he saw it at the $ store so I will check that out also.

I prefer sizing, it seems to be more slick feeling, doesn't flake, smells good, and if you want it stiff you can do it several times.

I tried the mixable starch and was not a fan...perhaps I was being to liberal with it, but the concrete floor of my basement was REALLY gross after trying it out. :)

I like sizing but also like to use Best Press. I normally buy a bunch of it when it's on sale at Hancocks, and they started carrying the big refill jugs there as well. It's a lot less expensive there, than at my LQS.

As an FYI, use Magic Sizing to remove hoop burn from embroidered items.

I use Magic Sizing for giving a fabric more body. I also keep a can of starch on hand for ironing applique edges.

I have never used sizing. I use Mary Ellens and Niagra spray starch. I love how my fabrics feel after being starched and ironed. I use the blue jug of concentrate one the shirts I get from the thrift stores that I have cut up. It makes the soft fabrics much easier to cut.
