I am going to make some small credit card/tea bag holder/coin purse things. My question is...will those 1/2" round magnetic closures that Joann's sell wreck credit cards????

I am not sure but I would be almost afraid to take the chance. Have you given any thought to using a metal measuring tape (like a carpenter uses)? If you put it in a casing (one piece along each side) you can flex it apart and it will snap back together. Works great!

Yes, any magnet will wipr out the data contained in the magnetic strip of credit cards, ATM cards, store charge cards, anything like that. http://www.creditcards.com/credit-ca...hones-1272.php There's lots of alternatives - zippers, snaps, velcro, hooks and eyes, buttons, lots of things.

I have a pattern for bags that shows using the 3/4" tape measure. Have you tried this? if so, how did you fix it so the tape didn't cut the fabric casing?

Okay you ladies are going to think that I am crazy, but why not wrap the carpenter's tape measure in duct tape. I think that would keep it from cutting the fabric.

It has so many uses you know, LOL

and, it doesn't cut too easily. That's probably what I will use.

Thanks for the input...I have made the carpenter tape ones and they are really nice. This pattern is a little different and requires a clsoure device. I can use snaps or velcro or a button/loop thing but was curious about the magnetic closures. They are a nice clean installation.

I agree, don't take the chance.
