Make a Pouf with Unfinished, or Old Quilts!
 

I've been seeing a few posts asking what to do with worn quilts and scraps. I also have this dilemma, only I have some old, wool blankets that need repurposing. I've decided to try my hand at making a pouf (round ottoman.) They're in all of the magazines these days and they're great for extra seating and don't take up too much space. I thought an unfinished, or old, worn quilt would also look really cute done up as a pouf.

I think the wool would be great (added warmth in the winter). The worn quilts would get a lot of abuse and wear out even sooner. I have my grandmother’s quilts hanging on a ladder with mine. I know some have made teddy bears and other stuffed animals from old quilts.

Tartan is spot on. I'm allergic to wool, but if you are not, go for it.

I bought wool carpet mat for my ironing surface and like it. It was a lot less expensive than what they are selling pressing mats at currently, but mine is not the 1/2 inch or so thick, however it does a good job.

You could cover the wool blanket with a quilt top and backing. Some are cutting the old worn patches out and making lap quilts or smaller ones to use. Some are using them behind the old windows. Have fun.

I go to the Army/Navy store to get inexpensive wool blankets. They are not as generously sized as commercial blankets but they are so useful.

Growing up near a national guard camp there was always wool blankets around. Aunts used to use them as batting nor their quilts. Very warm!

That's a wonderful idea! The tutorial says to use "fabric items for stuffing (e.g. old clothing, worn towels, fabric scraps)". Do you save your quilt scraps?

Sure do! It's a good way to get rid of all of those scraps without having a guilty conscience for throwing them in the trash. The instructions show using old towels too.

I have what was once a lovely Hudson Bay blanket that I think I can use. The stripes would add an interesting design feature.

I think that using old quilts would be adorable in a kids room, or nursery.
