Also, Joy, the daughter told me they have a garage full of fabric in totes that they haven't gone through and did not have in the sale. But again left my name and number and she is going to call me when they open the fabric up and let me have the opportunity to purchase.

This worked out well! I wonder how you approached the subject.

We just started talking about her mother's love for quilting and the many guilds in the area. She was so pleased that she had pulled the quilts from the sale to pass them along to the family. Her mother is still living but unable to care for herself. We shared our common bonds of caring for aging parents and love of quilting. I made a friend, encouraged her and we parted with a hug. Good day!

It really did turn out well. I'm glad you were able to open the conversation.

This is why we do what we do. Quilter's are some of the best people know.

I am glad you got a chance to talk to the daughter. It's good the quilts were pulled from the sale, though there may have been some people disappointed not to have the chance to buy them. Let us know when you post the quilts. I would love to see them.

Hope these can now go to quilt APPRECIATORS!!
I had an aunt who had a quickie yard sale when my grandma passed, she had it before anyone from out of state even got in for the funeral. My grandma had died suddenly and had no will. Aunt didn't care what anyone else might want. She lived nearby and wanted to hurry and get it done. Quilts and other handwork were sold off. She thought they weren't worth keeping. All she valued was furniture, china etc. She and her daughter had taken what they wanted. I was just 15 then but I still remember how angry the family was with her. Big arguments. Word to the wise - plan ahead, make a will, mark items and give them to family while you're able!

It is sad that the family does not appreciate this. Maybe she quilted so much and they are already overloaded with quilts. Hope they find a good home.

A friend of mine had an aunt who was very talented and when the aunt died my friend threw out a lot of the craft supplies as she didn't know what they were used for!! So my quilt group have now all made their wills with instructions that all their supplies, books, mags, and fabric must be offered to the group first , and all UFOs work will be finished by the group and sent to charity or given back to the family.

Wish I could be there.
Such a shame.
