Making 2 identical quilts
I have two sets of panels and the fabric to makes these quilts https://www.thesweetteagirls.com/shop/Quilt-Patterns/p/Oriental-Harmony-x18309757.htm andhttp://50.87.217.193/blog/2016/06/fr...fly-waltz.html.
Would it be easier to make them two at a time or just do it one at a time? I've never made two quilts that are the same, but these are my next projects. My fear is that I won't ever get back to the second one. bkay |
I know what you mean. I think I would cut all at one time -- make a chart/list of what I need to cut out of which fabrics (for both quilts) and check them off as I go. You could chain-piece the strips of small squares, in pairs, and other sub-assemblies.

You are correct, if you don't do them in unison you'll get bored after doing one and won't want to do another

Followed the link, Love the large one and the floral used.

That's a really pretty quilt. I would probably finish one top before starting on the other. That way I'm less likely to get confused, and I might discover something while making the first one that will help when making the second one. I assume there's a reason for making two identical quilts, so there should be less worry about not following through.

My tendency to is do them both at the same time.
I know what you mean about not finishing the second one. |
I've done this twice. Both times I cut out all of the parts and worked on them together.

Unison is the way! I made 2 alike once and never want to do that again! The first was fun and the second was Boring!! If I ever do it again I will do them in unison!
|
Together at the same time. Making one would be a joy, making the second one would be boring. By doing them at the same time you can "chain" sew and get it done equally.
|
For your situation, I would cut them both at the same time, so i only had to do the "thinking" once. Then I would sew them one at a time so see the results faster. But that is just me. There is no right or wrong here. BTW, I love your pattern, fabrics, and colors.

I bought the floral panel just because it's beautiful. And again, I didn't have a pattern for it. But once I found one, I went back for another panel, so I could use up the supporting fabrics. So, no, I didn't have a plan. All the fabric came from an off price outlet, so it seemed reasonable to buy two at the time. I knew I would never find those fabrics again. Now my plan is to make some of these quilts and to quit buying fabric until I use what I already have. bkay |
I would do them at the same time. It would save a lot of time. I would use lots of pinned on notations as I went along. I sew for a craft-boutique group and always make things in multiples. It is tedious to do them one at a time and then repeat the process.

I just finished 2 crib quilts for great nephew twins. I cut both out at the same time. I pieced both at the same time; however, I sandwiched, quilted and put borders on as separate quilts. Since these were my very first quilts, I learned from the first one. I think if I had completed one and then started the other, I would have been bored and have wished I was done. This way, I was excited as I saw how each one was progressing.

Dunster shared an interesting point...you might find an easier step while making the first one. My initial thoughts were the same as the majority of the group...do both at the same time, however, I’m one that would probably want to change my colors of the second one if the first one wasn’t coming together pleasingly. Good luck. <script type="text/javascript" src="https://beacon.krxd.net/optout_check?callback=Krux.ns.internetbrands.kxjso np_optOutCheck"></script>

I think I'd probably work on both at the same time, for the reason you stated.

I would do them at the same time to be sure they both got completed. I might do them one at a time if they were much larger and a more complicated pattern.
|
My inclination would be to do them both at the same time. Good luck and I hope you post photos when you finish.
