I have noticed a couple of discussions in the last couple of days about binding quilts. Everyone seems to be using 90º cuts for the binding, rather than bias tape.

When I first started quilting, the lady who was teaching the class said that "some rich people" use bias tape for binding their quilts, but we would learn the more economical way!

Now I know better - making bias tape is really, really easy and just as efficient as the 90deg cuts. I have made a little flash tutorial on my website about how I do it - check it out at http://www.3dquilt.me.uk/homepagefiles/tutorials.htm

(also, let me know if there is anything unclear in it!)

I use bias binding on curved things, or if I'm using a plaid or stripe (because I like the way it looks better) but otherwise I don't bother. I know it's easy and probably know about 10 different easy ways of cutting it but I still don't do it much. Also I do scrappy bindings a lot with leftover 2.5" strips that are already cut cross grain.

Perfectly clear to me, thank you so much, it must have been a lot of work but I'll certainly use it.
Thanks again,

I just bookmarked it so I can use it this week when I need it. The quilt I'm working on now has scalloped edges. Thank you.
