What do you use to block the liquids from soaking through when making quilted coasters?

I was wondering the same thing..all the ones I have seen don't have anything? I like making them..but that is a problem with them..

Just a thought....

Not sure how well it would work but what about sandwiching in a thin layer of vinyl between batting?????

Here's a link to some thin vinyl that would sew really well. and at a $1.75 yd, not a bad price.

When I made a changing table pad I used a flannel-backed vinyl tablecloth from the Dollar store. I don't see why you couldn't use that as a layer in the coasters, maybe instead of or in addition to batting.

But wouldn't the liquid still soak through the edges/binding and get the underside wet?

I know someone who used Timtex. Don't know for sure if it weeps or not ... rather doubt it does.
