Making a flannel quilt
 

I am making my first flannel quilt. The top is made using four different flannel prints. I have quite a bit of the flannels left over and wondered if I refigured them into a new pattern for the back, would it make the quilt too weighty or too heavy? Also, what should I use for the batting? Should I use any special needles, threads or quilting foot when I get ready to quilt it? I would appreciate any advice you can share. I LOVE this Board!!!!!:)

I just made a flannel quilt. I pieced the flannel back to make because of the width and it was fine. As far as batting I usually use warm and natural but because of weight I used the lightest weight polyester. It is not that heavy but really warm (what I wanted). As far as quilting I used a topstitch needle and m standard thread I use for all quilts. It's a great warm quilt and I just love it.

I love flannel in quilts whether it is on one side or both. I honestly don't think it is really much heavier, but if you like you can use a batting that is a little lighter. My current favorite is Hobbs 80/20 and I do think it is a little lighter than Warm & Natural.
