If your cutting sashing for a quilt and the WOF is shorter than the length you need for the top, what is the proper way to make the sashing longer? Did that make sence?

Do you sew two peices of fabric together to make the needed length and do you divide the length needed and sew the two peices together at the middle point or do you use one whole peice and sew the difference so that the seam falls wherever when you sew it to the body of the top?
I hope that was understanable. Thanks for your input.

i sew mine together on the diagonal, i don't fuss much about where the seam lands but i try to keep the away from other seams and not too close to end

I'm with kathy. It is not worth the stress. you are making something made of bits and pieces, no one except you will know if sashing is pieced. I piece mine all the time. Also borders.

I do the same thing as Kathy. Now if I am only a couple of inches short, I might cut some from the larger piece just to make sure the seam does not meet any other seams. Hope this helps.

Same here. I also try not to have the seams fall in the same place on each side - place one nearer the top and one nearer the bottom. Just sort of balances it off for me.

I try to sew mine on the diagonal if there is enought fabric. If not just sew them toghther straight. I like to press my seams open if I sew straight seams on the sashing. Don't stress too much over this. Most of the time you are the only one who knows.

I cut sashing lengthwise, as I do for borders, when I use it...which is not often. If that's not possible for lack of fabric, I put cornerstones in the sashing to avoid the problem altogether.

What is a cornerstone?

Blocks in the corners of the sashing where the seams intersect.
