making potholders

I have always made my potholders like I do quilts when I am done I sew on the binding.
I have read someplace where it is done where you sew around the edge and leave an opening
for turning. I was wondering can you put several pieces of batting? I assume that after you turn it
is when you machine quilt the pot holder. I think I would like to try this and avoid doing the binding on
small pieces. Any help with instructions?????????
Thanks

Thanks for the link! I'm gonna try that for my next pot holder.

I like a thicker pot holder than the one with the link usually. There is a 10 minute potholder on you tube that is quite neat and can be padded heavier and has no binding. I made some and they turned out cute.
