I am making a couple quilts with my mothers clothes. I am a new quilter and I am completely clueless. I have done one quilt(still not finished lol). Looking for a good pattern or style of quilt to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!!

Thanks,
Nicole

I am making a quilt out of my Uncle's shirts. I am doing a simple patchwork quilt. I cut strips of 2 1/2" wide. Then the strips are cut into 2 1/2 " and 4 1/2 pieces. I am alternating the sizes. It is looking nice.

A simple nine patch would be fine.

you don't mention the types of fabrics involved, but you will have an easier time if you can select items that are about the same weight. If you are going to mix wovens with knits, you probably should use a lightweight iron on interfacing on the knits. good luck!

Nicole, have you ever looked at Bonnie Hunter's site? It's all scrappy, maybe you could find something there that might interest you.

Coley since you are a beginner...do something easy. Don't do it in haste. Take you time. You may want to do a variey of simple blocks.

Anohter suggestion is to find a book of basic quilt blocks. Your local quilt shop may be able to help you or if you have a JoAnn's Michael's or Hobby Lobby by you, take the time to look thru them. You only need to buy ONE book and a great book to get is http://www.amazon.com/Quilts-Baby-Ea...3834558&sr=8-7 I learned from this book and found it at JoAnns. Easy blocks. Teaches you the fast and easy way to do lots of blocks.

Hugs coming your way. Can you feel them? Feel free to contact me any time.

My mother passed away 6 months ago and I made my sister a catherial table runner with my moms favorite outfits she wore. They are not hard to make at all and are beautiful when finished. You can find alot of tutorials on how to make them. There are several ways. By the way, It was the first real quilt design I ever did. I am new to quilting also. Good luck.

I once did a foundation-pieced crazy quilt style block. I think it was taken from Foundation Piecer way back when? I used a muslin as the foundation and it stabilized the clothing which consisted of lots of things--including poly knits. Because of the bulk, I used flannel for the batt.
