I need your opinions and guidance on this. BTW- I love this board- I am a lurker and haven't filled out a profile yet and don't know how to post pics- promise i'll work on that : ) I have this idea. My son has been stationed in Egypt for a year (national guard) He is to arrive home in May. My idea is to make a banner which would essentially be a quilt top. Maybe 3 by 6 or 4 by 7 ? It would have plenty of empty space for signing-therefore I would take it around our little town and have his friends and relatives sign it. I would then hang it on our front porch for his homecoming and then after things wind down a bit I would send it away for quilting and he would have a wonderful lap quilt for the rest of his life showing the support he got from his hometown. What do you all think of this? And also- what size should it be and most importantly- what do i use for the signing? Permanent markers? Thank you in advance - you gals are great! Love this board

Sounds like such a wonderful idea...a great homecoming...and then to be able to use it to warm up under...I am sure he will love it.
Size...any size you want...but a large lap size would be nice for when he is ready to use it to lay under.

What about the signatures? Would a permanent marker be the way to go?

Awesome idea!!
Pigma pens are permanent and don't bleed like permanent markers can.
50" X 70" is a good sized couch quilt :D:D:D
