Making a quilt for someone who has a different idea of what's pretty
My daughter and her family were here for Independence Day. She wants a new quilt for my 11 year old grandson's room. They looked through my many books to pick out a few patterns that I am willing to make and will adapt to the size they need. She and I have very different ideas of what is pretty. I have drawn off the quilts in EQ, colored everything white, exported the pictures to files and emailed them to her. Since she likes to color (the new thing for adults who can't quilt, I guess), she can color them like she wants them. I can tell her the yardage and let her get the fabric.
She's in Dallas and can find somewhere to shop for fabric. I have to buy all mine on-line since there isn't a store closer than 50 miles away for me. |
that is such an amazing idea! i have a couple quilt shops, best one 30 miles, some about 45 miles and then fabric depot in portland OR, the best of all, 4 hrs away. i have used eq for years. i go back & forth between my graph paper & touchup, coloring and template printing w eq. but to draft quilt & print in line drawing on white ..wow! what a great idea & a lot more fun to try colorideas than hunched of over a keyboard playing w the program color selections

That sounds like a good plan. I love EQ too. I do most of my shopping online because I don't drive anymore. Good Luck. There are so many neat fabric out there to suit any grandson.

Excellent idea!

I just made 2 quilts as gifts. Both wanted GRAY which is my very least favorite color. I know it is the "new white" but it is so drab to me. I love, love, love color. Oh well, they are now at the LAQ and I can go back to my precious scrappies!

What a fabulous idea ! You limited their selection of patterns; a win for you. They get to select the colors and buy the fabric; win for them AND you. LOL

My girls know if they get too opinionated about the quilts they want me to make for them they won't get one.

Since he is 11, I would have asked him what he wanted.

LOL, just want to add, coloring is for adults who also quilt! I do it when my fibro is acting up and I need some relaxing therapy. First I zendoodle, then I color my designs.
I am most definitely a quilter first though. Smilessss and huggggggs |
