I was making this little table cover for a table we put a little Christmas tree on and got the idea maybe I can make another one & use it as a tree skirt for the big tree. Do you think I could make another one, sandwich it and then quilt it, and then cut a round hole in the middle of it and make a diagonal slit from the hole to one of the corners & then bind around all raw edges? Am I missing anything?

That would make a really cute tree skirt. Keep in mind that if you do a binding you'll have to do a bias binding because of the curve around the center. You could just layer, sew around it and then flip it right side out and add some quilting. If you flip it don't forget to clip the corners and the curve so they lay nice.

thanks. Yup, I planned on using a bias binding to help on the circle. I guess I was just trying to make it more difficult than it had to be, as usual. :-)

Love the idea of a tree skirt. Sewing and then flipping makes this even more exciting and so much less of a headache. Thank you for this topic.

I would do it the way Scissor Queen suggested. Then I would bind the straight edges. The round center opening would lay flat that way.

I would not cut a diagonal but straight through the middle from the center to the middle of a straight outside edge. Much easier, less bias to bind.
