Dear Sharbar: I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your grandson. I have been saving my grandsons t-shirts to make quilts for them. I would think that each block you make will be refreshing and sad at the same time. I am praying for you and your family for peace and rest. May God watch over you and your family...

its not bad enough that I am dealing with the death of my grandson, but now my granddaughter is in the hospital having surgery on both eyes, today my husband cant hear he has an ear infection in both ears. I know this is only a test ... shrabar

SORRY for your loss...My daughter made t-shirt quilts her senior year...she used fusible interfacing for knit fabrics. It does add weight but the blocks can be squared easily. The quilts had flannel backing and was tied. We did not attempt machine quilting on our sewing machines although at several quilt displays I have seen machine quilted T-shirt quilts. They are great quilts. My daughter says they are always a conversation item.

Sorry to hear of your loss. My prayers are with you. I have only made one "Harley Davidson" t-shirt quilt and found it to be very easy. I saw somewhere that if you choose the largest design on the t-shirt, make your blocks that size. I cut the blocks through both back and front of the t-shirt. Then I serged all around the four edges, sewed the blocks together and sashed between the blocks w/2 1/2 strips. I used the same fabric for the backing. If you look under "Harley" t-shirt quilt, you will see how I did it. Instead of tying off the quilt, I used the astrik (*) and tacked it down. Yes, I used low-loft batting. The gentleman that I made it for, just loved it. Hope this helps. Let me know...Mary
