Well, once again, my sewing machine has bit the big one. I just finished up my aunt's Ragged Edge Christmas quilt. Putting the binding on was more than the machine could handle. My needle is totally out of alignment and hits the metal plate. I can't justify spending $65-$90 for maintenance when I'm trying to save up for a new machine!

I'm bereft. I'm heartbroken. I just got a 1/4" foot and was having a blast piecing a denim strip twist top for my husband. And I have a baby quilt to make. And a tote for my mother.

Fortunately, my daughter is close to potty training and I can sell all her cloth diapers in about a month. Hopefully between that and selling my own machine, I'll have enough for a new, low-end machine.

The really "great" part is that the machine quit working when I had about 8" of binding left to sew on!! I had to drive to NC from VA to give the unfinished quilt to my aunt today - - and use her machine to finish it. LOL

I am sorry to hear of your machine dying. Why can't they wait until you are completely finished to die? Hopefully you don't have to wait too long to get a new one. I would go through with-drawl's without my sewing machine. Fortunately I now have 2 so if one needs to go to the doctor, I still have the other to sew on!!! Baby in diapers? How old is your daughter?

My daughter is 2 1/2 and my son is 4.

I bet you are one busy mamma! My kids are from 20 to 27. Can't wait for grands!!!

I'm sorry about your machine, but you're really better off buying an older, higher end used machine rather than a modern low end one, they just won't last with heavy use. I've gotten several machines at thrift stores and auctions, very reasonable.

I bet you have your hands full. My 5 year old GD lives with me. Keeps me on my toes, but I love it. I've had a low end machine that has served me well for two years but is on it's last leg. Just got a new machine. It's a little better than my old one. Wish I could have gotten a better one but you go with one you can afford. Keep looking. I'm sure there is a machine out there with your name on it.

Make sure you try Craigslist and FreeCycle...

just what is the problem with the machine.....is the needle bent?.....they say that is the first thing to go....and they do been easy .....Have you tried a new needle.....what brand is your machine ...sometimes the money is better spent on a tune up....they put new parts were need be and clean and oil set the timing......Oh make sure the foot is always down...it will throw the timeing off......but some machines are lemons...good luck on getting it fixed regardless

If you do alot of denim quilts you might want an old Singer. I have several of them and love all of them. I have never paid more than $40 for them except for my featherweight.

Oh...when is the funeral? I do hate it when that happens. I bet you can run across on for a good price in a thrift, yard sale, craigs list. Good luck with it. That denim is hard on them isn't it..
