Which marker do I use with June tailor around the block?

I am trying to use the June Tailor Around the Block template to mark a fan motif on my quilt top. I am having a difficult time, due to the thickness of the template. Tried a blue water erasable marker, and a friction pen-neither seems to have a long enough "point" to mark through the slots on the template. I have surfed the web, and it sounds like a dark Sewline fabric pencil (my fabrics are pretty light) might work....any thoughts? Thank you!

Have you tried a chalk pounce?

Most times I use a plain old mechanical pencil with regular #2 lead for light fabrics. On dark fabrics I use the Bohin marking pencil - also a mechanical pencil with white 'lead'.

I don't think the pounce would work-the template is pretty thick...I may try regular mech pencil with a very light touch! Yikes! Scare me! Lol
