Marking pen/pencil?
 

I have two Singer pens that come out when washed, which is what I prefer. However, I can draw about one line then it seems to run out of ink. I am making some weighted blankets so there are alot of lines and I can't wait for the pen to decide to write again. I also have a pencil but it is does not come out when washed and I have to draw on top of the fabric.

Any suggestions on a good, long lasting, marking pen or pencil that will come out when washed? Also, I don't want them to fade too quickly as sometimes I have to stop sewing before I get done with the blanket and I really don't want to redraw the lines.

I use the Pilot Frixion pens that come out with heat, but check before you commit to putting it on your fabric. I've used them many, many times on all types of fabric and colors and have never had a problem with them leaving a mark, but some people have.

I use a lot of Perfection Tailors Chalk. It is actually a wax crayon and as long as you don't hit it with an iron, your lines don't disappear! And because I wash everything after I am done with it, there isn't any waxy residue. I can send you one if you want to try it out! Send me a pm with your address. I just use a plain old #2 lead mechanical pencil for marking. Washes out every time. I also have a bohin mechanical pencil with white lead for dark fabrics. Have never had issues with this washing out either. I also have fatter chalk mechanical pencils of varying colors that also work well and wash out just fine. Sorry don't remember what brand they are but picked them up in JoAnn's.

Frixion works, but you have to steam out the marks and then wash the quilt. If you don't wash the marks come back in the cold

a mechanical pencil with chalk "leads" is great ( there are a few out there), as well as just plain ol' cheap tailors chalk triangles.

Some find that there are shadows that show after the quilt is washed ... and that the markings do come back with cold.



White lead for mechanical pens ... where do you get it? And does it brush off? Or necessary to wash?

I'm wanting something to use on dark fabrics that stays on easier than chalk ... but that you can get off, without washing. Ideas, please?

I LOVE using Miracle Chalk (not really chalk at all) on dark fabrics. It marks easily, and stays put until you steam it off. You don't even need to touch it with the iron, just give it a shot of steam. http://www.amazon.com/Miracle-Chalk-...=miracle+chalk
