i know that this may sound like a dumb question. when you have to mark your fabric and it still shows do you wash it before giving it for a gift?

What did you use to mark it? How much does it show? How nit-picky is the recipient? What's your time frame?

i wash everything before it goes to its new home.

I wash everything when I finish so it has that nice fresh smell and is all crinkly.

I wash everything, especially if I use water soluable markers because if you don't wash them thoroughly, they can be heat set, which makes them permanent, or resurface later. I finished a tote for my DMIL which I did hand embroidery on the front of. The embroidery got a real good soaking to remove the blue marker and to set the floss so it didn't run later (I used a bit of Syntropol to set the floss).

Better safe than sorry.

I wash every thing, too. Since I usually use soap to mark the middle of the quilt and then water soluable pencil markers it helps to get the soap and markings out. I try never to use anything that won't come out in the wash.

Hugs,
Sharon

Synthropol is amild but very effective soap that sets colors and catches loose dye so that it doesn't settle on the other fabrics in the wash, you can read more and purchase at Dharma Trading online.

I'm so glad you asked the questions as I was just wondering the exact same thing! Great minds think alike.

I'm glad someone replied as I took it for granted that y'all knew what it was/is. Sorry!!
