Has anyone tried either the Martelli or Gingher rotary cutters?
If so, what do/did you think of them? I gave away some of my cutters, and I think I gave away too many, now I'm looking to replace at least one of them. |
I go t the Gingher last Christmas and love everything about them them.
|
Can you use Olfa or Fiskar blades with them?
Anything particular - as compared to Fiskars or Olfa? |
I recently purchased a Gingher Rotary Cutter. Love it.
But, I was sewing a few weeks ago and my dog (lab and akita) was laying on the floor, he jumped up barking, I jumped and so did the rotary cutter and part of my finger. .. Just be careful. Bettia |
I hope you didn't do too much damage to yourself.
Those cuts can take a while to heal up. |
I have the martelli cutter and after you get use to it is is great better for hand and arm.
|
I love my Martelli!
|
I love my Martelli too. Much easier on the shoulders for me.
However I have learned, after 4 years of use, that it is best to not use the Olfa blades in it. Buy Martelli blades for the cutter. |
I have the Martelli and like it. It does take a little practice to get used to the different position; however, it is much easier on the hands when you have a lot of cutting to do.

I have never seen a Martelli,In what ways is it different from a Olfa?

http://www.martellinotions.com/ If you click on their video section, there is a video demo of the rotary cutter on the website (on the second page of the video demos). |
Thanks!!

I love my Gingher cutter...
It is a smooth, dream cutter...but I like my Fiskars as well. I hated the Olfa... Kirsten |
The Martelli cutter is a great option to think about. It is an ergonomic design that really does do what it it is promoted to do. It relieves the position of the wrist and arm that causes repetitive motion problems - i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, tennis elbow, etc.
Those who already have these problems may find that they can cut again and for longer periods of time without aggravation. The time to learn a new way to hold the cutter is a short learning curve and worth it in my opinion. The replacement blade issue is that some rotary blades have an irregular small inner circle instead of smooth that can damage the 'stem' that holds the blade in place on the cutter. If the small circle is smooth, it doesn't have to be a Martelli blade replacement on the 45 mm. The 60 mm cutter does need a Martelli blade. I do not work for the company, lol - I asked all these questions at a Martelli demo at a large Quilt Show. |
I have the Martelli but ever since I tried to change the blade I can't get the thing back together again GRRR!!!!! I had long since thrown the wrapper in came in out by the time I changed the blade. I'm going to the Fort Worth quilt show tomorrow and if they are selling them there maybe I can get them to show me how to get it back together. I usually don't have a problem putting stuff back together, must have a trick to it or something or......ok, maybe it's me!

In my opinion I wouldn't waste my money on the Ginger cutter if I wasn't going to buy the made for Ginger blades to use in it. Sort of defeats the purpose to not to.
|
Love my Martelli!!!

Just received today the Gingher rotary cutter I purchased through e-bay.
I think I like it - it feels nice - I got it (and a spare blade) for $19.99 plus $5.00 shipping, which I thought was pretty reasonable. Might buy a Martelli, too just because - - - |
