Has anyone bought the Martha Stewart rotary cutter and ruler?
Walmart carries them in the decorations aisle. The cutter rides on the guide that is on the ruler. You have to buy the cutter separatly though. When I checked on line for the cutter it says it costs $20.00. But I went to the store earlier and I think it was $15.00 or $16.00. And I think the same with the ruler. The ruler was 6 x 14 or 18". Any how, if you have do you like it? How well does it work for you? It is in the decorating depart. But the packaging on the ruler looks like they were using fabric to me. |
Can't help. Didn't know she had anything like that.
|
Sorry, can't help, but I will look for it next time I go to WM.

I have the cutter, my mom gave it to me. I love it but the screw keeps coming loose. Sorry I don't have the ruler.

Not I......
I avoid that woman like the plague, she is rather scary with that odd smile and leery eyes. LOL   |
I will stick with Olfa and Omni Grid...I am very happy with those products.
Enjoy if you get them! |

Is this your first rotary cutter purchase? I think you'll do better with the more common brands. Not to dis Martha, but she's not known for her quilting tools.
Rotary cutters are kind of personal. Some have features quilters love and other quilters hate. If you have never used a rotary cutter, buy one within your budget and practice. You'll get used to it and it will probably be the only cutter you'll ever want or need. Change your blades often. It's not worth the arm pain or skipped threads to deal with a crappy blade. The blades are not cheap, but having a sharp one makes all the difference. I experience cutting fatigue often. My hand and elbow get it if I cut too much. I'm in considerable pain if I continue cutting. Sometimes there is swelling or tenderness. So far, the only thing that helps is to let everything rest a couple of days. I can usually get back to chopping, but I make sure I have a sharp blade and I'm not putting pressure on my joints. Good luck fining your cutter. Be safe with it. |
No I,m not looking for a cutter. I have a fiskers and an olfa. I just so happened to see Marthas.

I think Martha Stewart is certainly talented but I don't like anything I've bought with her name on except for wall paint- that was nice. I didn't like her sheets and a friend of mine had a comforter that didn't hold up.
What always gets me interested in her lines are the colors- but I don't buy her stuff anymore. I actually don't usually like designer labels- I always get the feeling I'm paying more b/c of it. |
Are you talking about her paper cutter?? If so I heard its great. She has some nice quilting tools.
|
I have not seen that brand at our WalMart. I wonder if it is a regional item?
|
i seen her items at Michaels.
|
Gosh, I didnt know she had quilt stufftoo! I bought her glitter at Christmas, a big set with my gift card from Parents. I really was awesome stuff, lol!
|
I had no idea she was into quilting too. Is it just something she put her name on? I like what I have and most likely won't change.
|
I have the fiskar all in one cutter/ruler. I got mine at WalMart a couple years back.

Chele, Have you tried the ergonomic cutter? My cousin just had surgery on her thumb and has some crippling arthritis in both hands. I got one for her. She says she is able to use it without pain. She is left handed so I found one that is for lefties but she can also cut both hands so probably could have used the more available right handed one too.

I do happen to have the MS cutter and ruler, only because I found it at Tuesday Morning Shops so cheap I couldn't NOT get it. I do like the ruler very much, as it is coated on the bottom and doesn't slip on the material as you cut. I also like the idea of the cutter riding the rail, but the blade didn't stay sharp very long for me. Because my cutting arm is weak and my accuracy is questionable at times, riding the rail seems a real help to me at keeping my cut straight. Also, the blade is only exposed when the cutter is pressed down onto the rail, and this is a good safety feature. I just wish the cutter blade was of better quality. I am going to try putting a better blade in it when I can get some.
The only negative for the ruler is that because of the backing that keeps it from slipping, it's a little harder to see some of the cutting board markings thru. |
Wildyard, if yours is like mine, which sounds like it is, just a different brand. Mine is 6 x 24. I so totally agree about the blades. They don't last long at all. Recently, I got blades at Joann's for Buy 1 get 1 free. Bought a Pkg of 5 for $30 (ugh) but ended up with 10 blades. I don't remember them always being so expensive...

They are normally in with the scrap booking stuff but it's the exact same as the quilting ones. there isn't any difference between them. I have a little MS blade cutter and love it for my quilting projects. there is no handle on it just the blade and a cover and it was only $1 at a surplus store. i also by scrapbooking templates for quilt templates.

I never used it but have used other things I have bought from her were not worth the money.
