Mary Jo's in NC ???

My DD will be going there sometime this week on her way to the ocean for her and her DH's third wedding anniversary. They will be stopping at Mary Jo's either on the way there or back. What should she be looking for? Is it just a quilt shop or a big fabric store? Do they have bargains, etc???

Big fabric store with lots of quilting fabrics. I would say over 1/3 of the store is quilting or quilting stuff. Bargains are good and they had most any kind of novelty prints you may want. All the major college, sports and animal fabrics. I have been once and I plan on going again when I get a chance.

Go with a list or at least a plan. It is huge and can be overwhelming if you don't have a plan. You'll want to buy everything!! They do have a website so you can see what they have.

They've had an extensive makeover and now carry an even greater variety of fabrics and notions. They've also rearranged the checkout area. Have fun - it's a great place!

My advice would be to make a list. Their novelty fabric is wonderful and organized by catagory (such as bugs, flowers, etc, etc.) They have a wonderful selection of notions. Tell your DD to have a wonderful time. It is an awesome place! The first time I went there I was so awestruck that I left and came back.

It is has fabric of all kinds but a huge selection of quilting fabrics at very good prices for current fabric. It takes me more than a couple of hours and I go for lunch and go back. It is wonderful, not much for insiprational pieces but just lots and lots of fabric. Tell her to stop at the thread outlet not to far from Mary Jo's its called Long Creek Mills.. if you are in the area and at Mary Jo's ... its worth the stop.
I would not say there are lots of bargains... just good fabric at lower prices than you will see just about anywhere about $1.00 per yard at least lower for top brands. If you are looking to spend less than $5.00 per yard ... it is not your store.

They also have every color under the sun that you could imagine :) It can be overwhelming , but fun

Also just as a heads up the last time I was there - they ripped the fabric , don't cut it - I had to cover my ears LOL

Awesome watehouse full of quilting, home dec, bridal and unique fabrics with great prices. I usually add to my stash with batiks or blender colors. I am going in July ad my MIL lives near there.

I feel like I have hit the jackpot!! I was very apprehensive about taking a job in Charlotte, NC but I did because jobs are scarce here. Have been out of work for 9 mths. Since I took the job Friday, I have found out that Mary Jo's is close to Charlotte, Beaver Creek Quilts is moving to Charlotte, and when the company had me book my flight, there was a connecting flight thru Dallas. I get to see my son, and my two grandchildren for four hours!! Haven't seen them in at least two years. Feeling better about it now.

yngldy, congrats on the new job. And how nice that a great quilt shop will be nearby for you. Enjoy your visit with your son and grandchildren.

Hi, Linda, any chance your MIL is Van Stamper in Charlotte?

They should go on the way back, because all of that fabric will take up too much room otherwise. Really, Mary Jo's is huge. Stock up on Fairy Frost; there is an ginormous selection. And, as noted above, lots of batiks.

Update - my DD did stop at Mary Jo's on their way back from their trip and I was asking her (on the phone) about it and specifically asked about the Fairy Frost - my newest "HAVE TO HAVE FABRIC". And she was a little vague about it but did say that she bought a few pieces of other fabric for her fabric covered clothesline bowls. A few weeks later it was my birthday and lo and behold - she gives me a bunch of FAIRY FROST!!!!! What a wonderful daughter with great fabric taste!!!
