Hi, can you suggest a good type of material that I can do my machine embroidery on to use in combination with my quilt material. I would like to make a quilt with some embroidery blocks in between, but the cotton seems to be a bit "light" even with the stabilizer. I get some "pleats" on the side of the embroidery if I use it. I was wondering if I should use something else? Thanks for your help.

have you tried doubling the stabilizer. Sometimes I have to do that and when you do one piece should be going opposite the other piece

I have had to use as many as four layers of dissolvable stabilizer to prevent wrinkles on light weight material. One of my books has instructions for using many more layers when embroidering very light weight material. It is expensive, but when you are done, the stabilizer is gone, the embroidery is there and there are no wrinkles.

what I've learned is that it depends on how many stitches are in the design. If I do a tight design with around 10K stitches, I use 2 layers - as mentioned - turning one at an angle. that gives more stability. the higher the stitch count, the thicker the stabilizer needed. that will prevent the puckers. Took a stabilizer class with Floriani - great info.

You could also use an iron on stabilizer in conjunction with a tear away.

I have used Kona cotton and Bella to do machine embroidery on. I used iron on stabilizer to do redwork type embroidery with 30 weight Sukley thread. Worked very well. I always used 2 layers of stabiizer when doing embroidery. May cost a little more in term so stabilizer used but less chance of problem embroidery.

I always use the iron on stabilizer along with my tear away. The design looks so much better with than without. I use the cheapest iron on tha JoAnns carries. I very much like the results that I am getting since switching over to this method. I don't get wrinkles around the design anymore...

I have used a thin batting as stabilzer as well.

Thank you, I am going to try with more stabilizers. As you said, it might be expensive, but worth it. Thanks for the Kona cotton hint as well.

I always use cotton fabric when I do machine embroidery.
The stitch density on the embroidery design is what I base my # of pieces for stablizer. I have never used more than 2 and have never used iron on.
