Zozee, do you want all of it or only the twirly part in the middle?

Just the twirly part. I want a 12” finished block — not looking to make the featured quilt . And if I could figure out to make it with a whole square piece in the center instead of 4 little triangles, that’d be easier, I would think.

Wanna know how I would simplify the reduction? I would cut the pieces 20% smaller , arrange them face-up on background fabric, sides touching, then raw-edge applique! Boom! No seams. No graph paper. No hair lost! 😂

Using quarters of the twirl block I redesigned it to 12" to give the same look but put together a bit different. I'll be sending some scans to Zozee after Staples opens this morning, I no longer have scanning capabilities. I think my next printer will include them. But woohoo for Staples and people would be amazed how much I use their copiers for how many different things.

I should say after going back into the magazine, that there are some nice things about how that designer did it. What I call "sashing" is an alternate square, a fancy 9-patch variation. It just was super hard to scale down from 15".

I love how different minds can make the same thing differently. We each have our styles and strengths and tricks. And here on quilting board we can share them!

What a beautiful block! No clues to help you, sorry.

A 15" block drawn on 4 squares to the inch graph paper would be 15 x 4 = 60 squares.
On 5 squares to the inch graph paper, 60 squares is 12"!
If you draw each piece on 4 squares paper, then count the squares to redraw on 5 squares paper using the same number of squares between lines, you will have your 12" block pieces.
You WILL have to redraw the 1/4" seam allowances.
