This isn't a quilting question...but I've got a ton of Maxi-lock polyester, serger thread on cones left over from serging my kids clothes when they were small. Does anyone use it in the bobbin when the do machine embroidery? I've only used 60 wt. poly and cotton bobbin thread in the past and I can't find anywhere what the wt. is for Maxi-lock thread. If you do embroidery on shirts etc. has this thread worked o.k. in the bobbin for you?

I'll have to try doing a sample to see if it works, if no one has tried it.

Different machines, handle different thread, differently LOL, that sounds like a tongue twister :D:D:D
I would try it and see how your machine likes it. If it works, I would use it up!

I use bottom line thread in my bobbin but the cones for the top, they work fine on my Brother, Just had to adjust the tension a little.

Yeah, I know:> I'm just certain someone here would have tried using it as bobbin thread and could give me a heads up as to what to expect.

Don't quote me here but I think I was told that the serger thread is 80 wt. I have never tried it, but I think that you could do a test and see how it works. I'll be interested in hearing how it goes.

I have a good friend who always uses it for her practice designs, for both bobbin and top. (She has a Viking, but I can't remember which one). I have a Janome 11000 and it does NOT like embroidering with serger thread. So, as others have said, it's worth testing on your machine (if its not a Janome 11000). I looked inside some of my cones and there is a 70 printed on the sticker, so maybe that's the weight. It doesn't specify what the 70 is.

At my Joanns ( :roll: ) they told me I couldn't use the serger thread for regular sewing as it is thinner and won't hold up , so I have been afraid to try if for embroidery

True...but if used in the bobbin, like I want to try it, it should be fine. I would never use it as a sewing thread or as embroidery top thread. Bad idea.

Is the bobbin thread thinner ?
