This may be a dumb question.....
Is there such a thing as a stitch regulator for a domestic machine for FMQ? I was asked this question by a friend of mine who is having problems with her FMQ on a domestic machine. I didn't have a clue. But, didn't want to appear too dumb since some people think I'm an expert. hahahaha!! Not the first time that I had to admit to my ignorance on something. But, not too proud to say that I know where I can find out. So, here I am.... asking.

My Bernina 440QE has a stitch regulator. At the time it came out there were no other true stitch regulators on domestic machines (as far as I know).
|
My Bernina Artista 630E also came with a stitch regulator.

Tell you friend to just doodle on paper, check out pajama quilter and she shows how to get better at fmq

The Bernina Stitch Regulator (BSR) helps to regulate the stitches but it is not a guarantee of perfection. The "eye" reads the movement of the fabric underneath it. I have it on my B440 and it does prevent micro stitches which was my main problem. It added about $1000 to the cost of my machine. I don't always use it now that I have gotten better at FMQing.

Some of the newer Bernina machines can be purchased with a stitch regulator. But they are very expensive and I don't ever use mine!! It is probably me but it drives me crazy!!!

My Bernina 710 came with a stitch regulator....have never done fmq......it's my next impending learning curve to embark on! So far all I've done with it is take it out of its box with the appropriate amount of ooohhhing and ahhhhing, nodded wisely at it and then put it back in its' special box! Cowardy custard me!

I have a Baby Lock Jane that is set up on a long arm table. It has a stitch regulator installed on it. Had this set up done by a professional at a quilt shop.
I don't recommend a domestic machine for long arm work. Don't even use it anymore. Looking to maybe get a Block Rocket. |
