Terrific finds! Happy sewing!!
Some quilt guild could use that fabric for their community service projects. Or perhaps a FH group learning to sew...
Makes me a bit sad for the quilter! and the ones who just wanted to get rid of all the stuff! (I do understand) that transition into ?
On the other hand:) What a great buy! I would have taken it all and just sew away! guess I should go to garage sales! |
You have got to be kidding! Why don't I ever find great deals like this? ((GREEN))
Edited to say ... I am happy for you. I bet lots of nice quilts come from that great find. |
Not a hoarder, just a thrifty shopper. My kind of shopping. You done great, except for going back. I would have been there in a heart beat.

[QUOTE=mcdaniel023;6135467]I went to a garage sale today. The quilter had just moved to assisted living. The daughter handed me a grocery bag and said $2.00 a bag. I filled two bags and picked out three books and spent a grand total of $5.00. There is a total of 56 yards of quilt shop quality. I felt a little guilt until the guy working said, jokingly I think, If I came back at 3 he would give me my money back if I took everything that was left. I told him, my hubby would never let that happen. LOL![/QUOTE
congratulations! i have hit two yard/estate sales like that in recent years. hubby at my side helping me load the truck. if i had been lucky enough to visit this one, i could have phoned him and said "bring the other truck! you won't believ what i found!" and he would have. he's my fabric huntin' buddy :)) ..i go thru hauls like this and pull out what i know i will never use because of color, style, print whatever and share w quilt friends or donate to thrift shop after offering to local church quilt groups. looks like you got some wonderful older calico fabrics. i-net friend & i were comparing notes the other day about our 80's & 90's calico stashes. how much we loved the calicos from those decades. |
Love your haul..I couldn't have left without every piece!! AND my attitude is- if I am considered a hoarder so be it! This makes me happy and at my point in life, I have earned that right!
LOL, No way you are a hoarder, if you were, you would have never been able to walk away from the fabric to start with. Ask me how I know!
I love your "hoard"! I'm always looking for more!!! Good find!
I went to the Chicago Quilt Show today. No fabric, not even a fat quarter. I just couldn't pay $2.95 for a fat quarter, knowing I got all of this for $4.
I hope they tell the former owner about the nice woman with a big smile who is giving that fabric a loving home!
That is such a great story!
I think it is a great for all involved - you, the elderly quilt lady, and the family. All is good and I definitely would have gone back. That is what happened to me when I got two black garbage bags of 2 1/2 woolen strips for rugs or whatever. $2.00 a bag.
Soooo very glad for you.
Great score! I would not have felt guilty at all about going back at the end of the day. I would have just reminded hubby bow much $$ I was saving. Now he couldn't argue with that. Have fun with this new found stash and just think about how you helped out this family! And oh yes, remember to post pictures of your creations! :-)

Good for you and I would have taken it all and then kept what I wanted and passed rest along, so many people want to quilt and cannot afford fabric at todays prices.
You could have donated to a local church or guild for charity quilts.
Lucky you. Good stuff.
Sorry the lady had to move, but glad you are recipient of such a bounty of goodies.
Sure would love to run upon such a great deal! |
Some day, when I am no longer able to quilt..I would be thrilled to have my fabric go to another quilter, rather than my 30 year old son who could care less...Both of you will be blessed with the projects you make from her fabric!

You were very restrained. I would have loaded the truck and taken it all and then I would have had a lot of fun sharing with my quilt buddies at guild.

I found only a couple of small pieces of fleece when I was going to garage sales on Saturday. I haven't seen much fabric at the sales I've stopped at.
you hit the jackpot on that one! I'm sure if you can't use it all, you'll let others use it for quilts! I'll be happy to help you use it!
Gorgeous fabrics and think of this... the lady will be really happy that it went to another quilter that will love it.
I would have gone back with my husband's truck and he would have helped me!
I would have gone back even if it meant giving some of it to Goodwill. Don't ever pass up a chance for free fabric!!! And never feel guilty - ever!
