That should work also as long as the edges of the slippery surface don't curl up.
By the way, I literally wrapped the paper down the front of my cabinet, across the sewing machine bed and then down the back of my cabinet. Obviously you have to cut a small hole through the paper for the needle to go through before you begin stitching. I cut about a dime sized hole. EDIT: I used painters tape so as not to leave a residue on my machine and cabinet. I'm note sure if there is a double sided tape that is residue free. Shari |
I have used contact paper before for simple FMQ shapes to stick to the quilt surface a few times but never thought about the paper side. Sounds like you've found a good use for it.

I am liking this idea a whole lot. I volunteer at my daughter's school's library, and I spend hours covering paperback book covers with contact paper. Always just recycled the backing paper...wistfully. Now I have a use for it! You are genius.

I recently made the same discovery with a large plastic bag that some electronics came in. I taped first but a pain to get to my top loading bobbin..........so went to bulldog clips. Worked out fine!

That is where young children sit and they have wonderful ideas!

If it works that well maybe it would be worth reinforcing it for longer wear: peel the Contac vinyl part off and put it on the reverse side. Could have a custom-sized slider for just the cost of a roll of Contac paper! I'm going to add a roll to my WalMart shopping list....

Great hint. I must try it. As for double sided tape, it's usually pretty strong on the bottom side of the tape & maybe a little problematic trying to remove it without leaving a lot of sticky residue on the bed of your machine. I would experiment first.

Man, I have hated throwing that stuff away for years, but couldn't think of a single use for it! Now, I'm going to buy some contact paper and use the BACK! :) Thanks!

Thanks for the final clarification.
