Meandering

This question may have been answered many times. I was wondering what the meandering quilting stitch is....is it like stippling. Thanks for your answers and patience!!!

The definition I use is that stippling is meandering on a very small scale.

or meandering is stippling on a larger scale...I don't recall hearing that there is a specific size for meandering, but it's a more gentle curve than stipling.

A walking foot is used for straight stitch quilting with the feed dogs up. Meandering and stippling are done free motion with the feed dogs down and using a hopping foot.

Think of meandering like puzzle pieces as if you are looking at the back of the puzzle.

Meandering and stippling have become confusing the past few years. Stippling is or was considered to be a very small irregular design for background, mostly around applique. In vintage quilts is was not generally used for all over quilting. Meandering, to me is a more recent term which has been given to the "wandering" design which flows all over the quilt surface. Stippling is used mostly for texture while meandering is an all over utility type quilting.
There are many meandering designs in both paper and plastic. With stencils I will mark the design as I want the uniformity of the pattern. I am not very good at "snake track" meandering.....neither can I pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time.
