Measurements for Bowtie block
I need to replace some worn out blocks in an old quilt. I found the block pattern in Quilterscache; it is for a 12" block, but I need a 10" block. The old one I have varies from 9" to 10" wide. Can someone help me figure out measurements for a 10" block , please? Thank you , Elaine

Okay for the 9 inch finished size cut the outer blocks 5 inches for a 10 inch finished blocke cut them 5.5 inches. The center block for set in seams is 2 and 7/8ths square. If you are doing the tabs on the light colored squares 9 inch finished size is a 2-3/8ths square. The 10 inch finished size is a 2-1/2 inch square! If you need more help let me know! Luann

It kind of depends on what kind of Bow Tie blocks you want. There is the oldfashioned block that is put together with Y seams. There is a newer one done by sewing 4 triangles to the 4 squares before sewing them together. There is also the Faux Bow Tie or 10 minute block way of doing the block. Which one are you going to do? If it's the old one, I would start by drawing 4, 5inch blocks on a piece of feezer paper. I would then decide how big I wanted the center square to be (measure one of the original squares) After it was drawn out I would cut and separate all the paper pieces. If you used the freezer paper, the pieces could be ironed onto your fabric as templates and you could add the 1/4 seam allowances around all the pieces and cut out. You could remove the freezer paper templates before sewing it together and the templates could be used several times before wearing out.
