Looking for members in the New Mexico area within a 3 hour drive time. I am a newbie and would like some help in learning all about quilting. I have 1 LQS that would let me bring my machine and projects to their shop everyday if I wanted but feel that is not right.to them. I need help and haveb plenty of questions. Put some on the board but got few replys so I guess there are stupid questions or I haven't been around long enough to get in a click. Anyone in my home state want to help me. Ree Ann

I live in Los Lunas and love to make quilts and it would be an honer to help you. I work part time and am very active in several guilds down here in Valencia County.

Hi SW Chick...I am in Taos. Santa Fe Quilting Shop has wonderful classes including beginner classes. I've taken classes there even though I have been sewing a long time. Mostly I wing it, hence "Creative Chris". PM if you're close to Taos or SF. Also check out SFQ class schedule. There are some classes I'm interested in taking now in Sept.

I have shoped at the quilt shop in Santa Fe several times. Our guild just recently had a UFO retreat in Taos. We have it every year. I will let you know the next time I venture to Santa Fe.

Give me a yell when you come down in Oct. Connie in CO. We can go to SWDecratives, I know you like that shop. If you haven't been there in quite awhile you will find big changes. They have nearly the entire building now.

Hope you find someone to sew with. Sorry you did not get answers when you posted. SOmetimes topics get put back on pages so fast and we miss them. I see lots on here posting help so hope you try again. Then, just saying, when you aren't quilting you can be at the Camel Rocl casino or Sandia. LOL. Another good hobby.

SWChick 08-03-2011 02:49 PM

Platium member at Sandia, haven't been to Camel Rock but checked out Buffalo Thunder last week. Have membership at Isleta Hard Rock, Route 66, Santa Ana but haven't been there in a year, and Cascino Hollywood which is a waste of time.

There are 8 quilt shops in the area. One is in a private home and she has great prices. She is just around the corner from Quilt Bugs. Maybe we could all get together and do a shop hop.
The shops are:
Hertha-private home
Quilt Bugs
Quilts Ole
SW Decoratives
Ann Silvas
Quilt Works
Quilts from the Heart
Busy Bee

If you buy fabric and other quilting items from that store, then go ahead and sew there.

If they don't already have classes you may start a trend for them to do so. It is to they're advantage to have you there. You help them show how much fun quilting can be and thus help them sell more fabric and such. You also show others how much the store personnel will help them if they need it. You become free publicity for them.

If you still feel awkward ... take them a homemade cake or something you all can share.

A LQS without any quilting activity is usually a store I would avoid.

I didn't know about it either and I live here. Most of these shops I only go to during the yearly hop. I always feel like I have to buy something and there's always plenty I want to buy. LOL

Hi Ree Ann,
I'm not too far from you, but I'm a beginner too, so I don't think I can help you too much, but would be willing to try or at least share my experiences.
I have found the ladies at Quilt Works to be very helpful and friendly.

I'm going to have to try and check out the private home store. I didn't know about that one! If you guys do a shop hop - I would love to join you.

Oh-oh! So will I. Can you PM me a list? I'd like to do a meet up with anyone in the area if possible. DH & I are participants in the fiesta and we'll have hoards of people with us as well so I'm not sure how much time I'll really have but I'd love to make it work!

SWChick 08-05-2011 07:08 AM

Donna we will have to get together and maybe we can help each other out. Connie in CO sounds like you need to tell us when you can do a shop hop then we could plan around that. Are you going to be here with a ballon or as a vender?
