Has anyone ever taken their childs/childrens baby clothes and made a quilt? I have a ton of stuff I've saved for all my kids and would like to make them each a quilt from the sentimental/keepsake clothing I've kept. I really need to do something with it all and decided I just can't keep it in these space bags ;)

But this is new for me. Any tips on how to go about this? Anything I shouldn't do?

TIA

Take a look at my avatar. That is a memory quilt I made for my daughter from clothing I made for her when she was small. (I kept the scraps) Then I also made a scrap book to go with it showing a photo of her in the clothing, decorated with the actual fabric. It was a wedding gift. Sara

I know people who have made quilts using their kids or family member's used clothes. The thing would be to find a pattern you really like that works with the material. My only suggestion is that you don't use the well worn areas of the clothes, like elbows or knees or seat of the pants (I guess that's a no brainer). LOL Have fun!!

Hi Shari,

That will be very special to your children. You have received many good ideas, Just make sure that you use the lace, decoration and buttons. If not big enough for a block then applique it. Start by laying the cloths out to get you started by looking at the material and colors. let it tell the story of each child.

Good luck and go at it.

Shari,,
welcome to Texas. I saw a quilt made with baby things that were 'appliqued' right on a backing of material and then quilted around it...I have thought about doing this for my kids but haven't gotten to it yet.
just an idea...

http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/2419.page here is a pic of a memory quilt I made for a client. Her friend passed away and she wanted quilts made from her nursing scrub tops and other fabrics.

There are so many things you can do with your scraps, it is really up to you to find a pattern you like.

Also, I am attaching a photo of a quilt called Magic Carpet that is good if your fabrics are coordinating enough to frame one with another. You should be able to find this pattern online as I did.

Good Luck!
