I have been asked to mend a quilt that is 100 years old. I have the fabric that matches it and is that old as well. Any of you have ideas on how to mend it?

what is the pattern? What repairs are needed - split seams? Replace worn pieces? Holes in otherwise good pieces?
I do this kind of work by hand with very fine thread, try to make it as invisible as possible. Re-quilt where needed. |
pictures always help with those kind of questions, because generically, all I can say is: VERY CAREFULLY!

Warning warning Will Robinson.
Just had a siminar last week at quilt guild. "to date a quilt, the time line is as early as the latest age of fabric used" So: her example, 1980's fabric was used on a great grandmother's quilt. The quilt then turned into a 1980's quilt. !! How awful !! So, please, it is up to what you want. A quilt that has warn, even because of the type of process the colors the material deterioted, or change the whole age /worth of the quilt. Please, consult a person that knows before working on the quilt. Good luck! Ell |
Pictures would help. In agreement with the other comments.

I am getting the quilt from the lady next week so I can take a look at it and see what all has to be done. She mentioned that there is frayed blocks were the stitching let loose and also a rip in one of the blocks.
