I tried replacing a zipper in jeans ONCE. Now when the zippers go, the fly gets sewn closed and the jeans become a purse.

I have a pair of denim shorts I need to do that to now. I also usually use the iron on patches but they don't stick so I sew them on. I also have a 'mending' setting on my Viking that does zigzag in both directions. Very nice stitch when it's a clean, new rip.
