I like to use metallic thread to quilt my table runners for the holidays. It gives them a little bling. I always have trouble with the thread breaking until I discovered Schmetz Metallic Needles 80/12. They are great. I did not know there was a special needle for metallic thread. I have quilted 4 tablerunners today and only had the thread break once, that is a miracle.

Someone posted a link to a company's product that is supposed to solve the problem of metallic thread breaking - a thread holder of some sort (Martelli, I thank). I looked at the video they had for it and it made alot of sense. The only problem was the price....$124.00 (I think). The needles don't seem so expensive anymore! :hunf:

Thanks for the tip...I have been keen on trying metallic threads.

That thread holder was on a rotating spindle... how many have a rotating mat? Find a spindle to sit on it that will hold your thread
The metallic needles are a bit more, but oh so worth it :D:D:D |
The first time I bought metallic thread at a LQS they told me about the special needle. I was so glad they did. But it was still breaking on me quite a bit until I loosened up the top tension. Between the two I was able to FMQ an entire 5 foot long table runner with no breaks. I too love the extra bling metallic adds.

the eye and groove are more accomidating in the metalic needles so the thread doesn't get stressed going through

Do they make those needle in a variety of sizes? I need a fairly large one for my APQS Millennium. Thanx--Dave B.
