Mexican Tiles Quilt

A beautiful pattern and beautiful fabrics! Don't know if I would use them together though. The quilt pattern is very fine, using a lot of small pieces and in my opinion, the effect of the fabrics will get 'lost' and the lines between the tiles and circles will probably create an undesirable effect when cut into small pieces. I tend to think that the fabric you showed would be better in a quilt with big pieces because the patterns on the fabric have already been divided into 'blocks' as such, by the lines between. Just my thoughts. Will be interested to hear what others think?

If you look at the fabrics used in the Mexican Tiles quilt, they all "read a solid." Your fabrics are beautiful, but I don't think they would work well with that pattern because they are very busy. Busy fabrics are great with patterns that are cut in larger pieces. Some good examples are, "Just Can't Cut It," "Take Five," "The Big Block Quilt," "Turning Twenty," "Between Friends," etc.

I agree with Vicki, you would lose the effect if you cut those fabrics into small pieces. If I were making the quilt I would use blenders, solids or batiks and use either of the two fabrics you linked to as the backing. I think this pattern http://www.southwindquilts.com/shop/...s-x2364911.htm would be a good choice for the fabrics you linked to.

I agree with the others, but sometimes we're all wrong. If you have that fabric, or something similar, you could make a practice star or two to see if you like the look.

I'm in agreement with the others here. I think these fabrics would be better showcased in a simpler pattern with larger pieces.

I've made two Mexican Star wallhangings and don't feel your prints would work for this pattern, need fabrics to read more as a solid.

My idea was to use the 'tiles' in the square pieces that are bordered by the folded back sections so that they're famed & the dish pattern as a border around the finished quilt. I'd love to see how anyone else has used these fabrics in a project because they are just too beautiful to hide in my stash...

love the fabrics; love the quilt pattern--but like the others, I think the small pieces of your pattern will lose the awesome pattern in the fabrics. And using it for the background & borders will cause the stars in the pattern to get lost. I'd keep looking for a different pattern--one that uses larger pieces of fabric to showcase these gorgeous fabrics. Check out Kaffe Fasset patterns as he uses many larger prints too.

Yes it is beautiful fabric. You can preview how the square will look without cutting the fabric. I take a plain piece of paper and cut the finished size square out of the middle. Then I lay the paper over the fabric to see how it will look. Hope this helps.
