Mid or Longarm quilters question: already basted quilt?
 

I have a quilt I made for a friend who recently lost a family member. It's already thread basted but I am wondering if there is some way I can still quilt it on a frame with a Pfaff Hobby 1200 machine. Could it be loaded as is or would I need to take all the basting out and start from scratch? Probably would not do that but would just try to quilt it on my regular machine but thought I would ask the question anyway for future correction of wrong decisions. lol

Once loaded on the frame, couldn't you just pick out the basting stitches for the row to be quilted before quilting? Seems like it would be loaded on the frame "square" and you would only be working one row at a time anyway.

I could load it on my frame as is.

I had a bunch - 7 quilts exactly glue basted before I bought my long arm. I loaded them and did then very successfully on my new long arm.

load it, smooth it, fudge it.

The last baby quilt I made I thread basted it very close(2" apart vertical and horizontal) because the backing was just barely big enough, then I sewed an 8" wide muslin strip all the way around the quilt before I loaded it on my long arm. That gave me the extra room needed to quilt an edge to edge pattern on the quilt. After quilting I just removed the muslin and all of the thread basting.

Wow, thanks so much for all the info. and suggestions. Think I might try this. I probably will have to add muslin edges to make it work (thanks for that idea Cari) but that's no big deal. Guess the worst that happens is that I have to take it off the frame and quilt on another machine. I really hope this works!!!

The only downside I can see is that if your quilting stitches are too close, you could find it difficult to remove the basting threads after quilting over them.
