I have read alot of posts about threads in top and bottom and how people like them. I have a midarm megaquilter on a frame and would like to see what people with these machines on a frame use. Do you use the same thread on top as bottom? King Tut is 40 wt, use the same on bottom? Any input would be great as I am going to be ordering some thread to start experimenting. I like to see the thread on the quilt, but I dont want to see any bobbin thread loops on top either.

I don't use my MegaQuilter on a frame any longer. When I did, it wasn't picky at all on as to the brand. I did use the same thread on top and bottom. I really liked Isacord, and I didn't have any tension problems. As long as your tension is correct, you shouldn't see the thread from the other side.

I Actually usually try to match the bottom thread to teh back of the quilt and the top thread to the top of the quilt.... Sometimes with many machines this causes freckling and it is not possible. SOmetimes mine will do that as well...but most of the time I can mess with my tension and get it to work.
I try to use a bobbin thread in the bobbin which is usually a bilobal polyester....a bit thinner and I use whatever teh quilt calls for on the top.

I tried the Sulky 40 wt and it was a pain. It kept shredding and breaking..Beautiful thread, just too soft.
Later when I used on my tabletop machine, I found I was having the same problem. Even after changing the needle to a bigger eye.
I found that by slowing the machine down, I got better results.
I like using a finer thread on the bobbin - if you use 40 wt, it runs out way too fast because it is so thick. The finer threads, Bottom line, Masterpiece etc last a lot longer and come in cool colors.

i match the thread on top to the top color and the bottom thread to the bottom color. i use the same weight and adjust the tension to accept the thread. the thing i'm most careful about is to match poly to poly or cotton to cotton.

btw, a lot of people here don't like sulky for that same reason.
i've never tried it myself.
