Middle layer of table runners

What is the best thing to use in a table runner and placemat? They have to be washable and I'd like them not to be thick. Have you always used something that works well? Thank you for any help with this.

I use Warm and Natural in all my tablerunners, but if you don't want them too thick why not use a really good flannel. There are alot of really cheap flannels on the market but also some really good quality flannel. Depending on the color of your tablerunner and placemats you probably wouldn't even have to worry about the color of the flannel.

I use Hobbs 80/20 quilt batt in my placemats.

I also like the 80/20. It's not real thick.

I also use 80/20. It's not too thick so there is no problem with wine glasses tipping.

That is what I use for my table runners and placemats using my scraps.
