so cool ! Have to remember this when buying large yardage of fabrics!

My sewing room looks like a bomb hit it! I get busy and don't put away properly. I do go through it once in a while and straighten and organize. Most creative people are messy--that's my excuse and I am sticking to it.

When I get mine all folded and stacked I find the next piece I want is from the bottom of the pile. So goes my nice neat stack....

I folded my fabrics and sorted by size. the larger pcs were put in a tub that I set on it's side. They fit better and you can see the choices. My scraps are sorted by size and in shoeboxes if fit, another tote if not. I also tried rolling my fabric with a pc of paper around it with size written on it and then rubber banded. Kind of like they do remanants at some stores. I tried to make them all the same length so they wouldn't hide one another. Worked until I cleaned up my room and made shelf space, then some of them stayed in their rolls on one of the shelves.

Me to. know just how you are feeling.

If I didn't know better, I would have thought this was my stash.
I just got 4 more bins w/lids at a yard sale for 25 cents each. Too bad they're not see thru's. The chaos continues...

I am fortunate to have shelves and cabinets but I do have overflow storage in clear rubbermaid tubs in the garage. I have my fabrics folded all nice and neat and organized in the tubs. One is flannels, another has Asians, another has McKenna Ryan fabrics and several others are filled with Back size yardage organized by color/type. most of the time all I have to do is look tru the side of the tote to see what I have. Other times I pull off the lid and can see what is in there that I want.
My scraps are in some of those rolling drawers, those are a little more mixed up. Fat quarters are also in those plastic drawers, folded to fit and organized by color/ type so I can see a sample when I open the drawer.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You have many compatriots!

I have no interest in being continually organized. But I do go at it about every 3 months -- resort, refold, replace in plastic bins. Then, eat some chocolate!

I started throwing my scraps in a box and once full, posting here to see who wants free scraps. I used to save everything (I mean everything!) but found this scrap buster very free-ing and a great way to get more room. Out with the old, in with the new!

I can totally relate to your situation. It helped me to have shallow tubs or bins so the fabrics are all visible and I don't have to dig. They are clear so I can see what's in there. When I use the deep big bins, my fabric gets trashed and it takes time to put it back together! Still have one large tub to hold the big cuts, and, looking at it right now, it's a wreck. The shallow ones look great!
