I recently made a minkee quilt for my daughter. I just used 2 yards of minkee and pieced flanned for the back. I just made it like a pillow case and slip stitched it closed. She just wanted a soft napping blanket. She didn't want any quilting or ties.

Now, I am going to make another one, but wanted to do both sides in different minkee fabrics, with no batting. One side solid and the other one of the patterned minkees. If I just sew it wrong sides together, turn and slip stitch closed, should I tie randomly around the quilt? I figured if I laid it flat on the floor and just tied it carefully it may not slip while I was tying it. Or should I try to machine tie it? I have this vision in my head that this is a bad idea and it will end up a mess and slipping all over as I try to tie.

It will just be a cuddle blanket for trips on the sports bus.....

If anyone has ever just used minkee and no other fabric, I would love some advice....

I have not yet used minkee, but I did use corduroy with no batting and just tied it. Worked quite nicely.

I would not venture to do the tying/quilting by machine, but then I have only done minor machine quilting so far...a few placemats and mug rugs.

Minkee is a real bear to work with on a machine - even using a walking foot so I would definitely tie it if I had that option.

I took a class for making minkee blankets and other things.
For the blanket, we laid out the back and marked the border, and center line. Then we used basting spray - lightly - you don't need much. The top was strips of different patterns and we spray basted the first strip, starting in the center, then built off of that strip. once the strips were sewn down we lightly spray basted the border area and flipped it to the center, turned under the edge and ziz zagged all the way around - pinning helps a great deal and mitering the corners is easy. nothing else is needed = Good luck - PM me if you need more information.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I was looking for something really easy and fast, so I guess I will try to lay it on the floor and tie it. When I made my daughters, I did nothing and she loves it. I just thought it would look better it if was tied.
