minky backing
I finished a quilt with minky as the backing and attached my 2 1/2 inch binding.
I don't like how the binding is not full and because of the minky the biding is so wide in the back. I wish I would have cut the binding strips to 2 1/4 inches instead. What size are your binding strips when using minky as backing? |
I normally cut my binding strips at 2.25" since I normally hand-stitch my binding to the back.
|
I always use the 2 ½" but I attach my binding and then trim the excess batting etc. leaving enough to fill out the seam. If you're not happy with the look of it, remove the binding and cut it down to the 2 ¼" or 2" that will fill out the binding.

I cut 2 1/2 inches for binding and have quilted several minky-backed ones and liked the way they turned out. I do mine all by machine.
|
Most of my bindings are 2 1/4 inches. I adjust if I have a heavier batting or a thinner bat. For minky I never use a bat so I cut my binding @ 2 inches!!!
|
I usually use 2 and 1/2 inch binding, but if you had no batting, maybe just 2 or 2 and 1/4? I've only made one quilt with minky on the back, I put batting, and I brought the minky to the front for the binding, came out pretty good.
