I am sewing a Minky baby quilt. It is shifting and driving me nuts. Give me your expertise so I can make this thing work out. Thanks

Will be watching for answers on this one. I'm starting a quilt that has a lot of this fabric in it soon.

I am curious to know if there is a special technique to working with it. It is a wonderful fabric.

I use my walking foot and a tear away stabilizer, or a wash away stabilizer works too.

The only advice I have is: don't!! Just kidding-I tried to quilt a baby quilt with Minky on the back and ended up taking it off and using a regular fabric backing. (I have NO patience!!) If you find a good solution, let me know; I may try again because I really like the look and feel of Minky.

I only use Minkee when doing it on the longarm, so I am no help. Just want to wish you luck! It is too difficult for me to do without a frame.

I just finished a baby quilt and used minky as the backing. I used the downy quilt pattern for the front of the quilt. I used 505 spray basting to sandwich it together and used some pins just to make sure. I didn't do a lot of quilting, just straight lines in an X formation. I used my walking foot and shortened the stitch length just a tad bit. I was afraid to much quilting would ruin the minky. I used a low-loft poly batting. And used matching cotton fabric to bind it.

This is for the little boy of my DD and SIL's close friend. Jacob 3 and has been mostly blind since birth. I think he can see shadows maybe. Anyway, he loves to "pet" things and we thought minky would be a perfect back to his quilt. I just washed and dried it last night and can't wait for DD to give it to him.

I just did a similar size baby quilt with minkee backing and no batting. Same quilting also, x's through the squares, pin basted but should have spray basted. Luckily, didn't have any wrinkles, used walking foot. Will try to attach pic later, haven't taken one yet. I think the walking foot helped and working with small pieces. The part I hate is the shedding from cut edges.

i pressed a lightweight non-woven interfacing to the back of my minkee, it seemed like that held it well to the other side, instead of the 2 slippery sides together, had to slow down, and i lengthened my stitch a little. it quilted beautifully.

I have done a couple of baby quilts with minkee. Both were combos of minkee and cotton. Lots of pins helps with that movement. Also, I have a built in walking foot which helps a bit too. When sewing cotton to minkee, I put the cotton on top.
I think the biggest help here is lots of pins! Hope this helps.
