Minky showing through

I have a quilt on the LA, pieced cotton on top, quality poly batting and minky on bottom. The top has a lot of yellow and the minky is chocolate brown. I have quilted a lot of quilts with the same fabrics. The brown minky seems to be showing up on the top stitch, you can see a lot of brown along with the yellow thread I am using. I have changed to a new 18 needle, didn't help and then changed to a 20 needle. I have adjusted tension and bobbin but still seems to be showing through. I am desperate, need to get this quilted, does anyone have any advise.

Sounds like the minky “fuzz” is getting pulled up to the top. I think if you change to a needlepunched cotton batting such as Warm and Natural, or add a thin layer of Quilters Dream cotton next to the backing, underneath the polyester batting, there would be enough resistance to prevent the issue. You could also try changing to a size 16 needle. The smaller the needle hole, the more resistance to pulling Foxx to the top.

What type of needle are you using?

I machine quilted a pink and black baby top with minky (white with primary colored circles) as a backing and found that a layer of pre-shrunk white flannel between the minky and quilt top stopped the migration of the minky fibers.

Thanks for the advise. DH was helping me and we did some adjusting of the bobbin (loosening it a bit) changed to a spool of King Tut thread and adjusted the tension. It helped a lot, not the best but it worked well enough to finish the quilt. I did not think it was the batting since the minky was showing. I do a lot of quilting with minky on the back and never had this problem. I will change the batting if I have this problem again.
