Minky

I got a strip kit of minky at the road 2 ca show, but have never sewed on minky, should i used a special foot to piece it together. I have a roller foot that i could use, just asking those who have experience with minky

When I did mine I used lots and lots of needles and my regular foot.. I have heard to use a walking foot. Just give yourself a little extra leeway o the seam 1/4 is nearly impossible!

When you say needles did you mean pins

a longer stitch length- a stretch (round point) needle- i've always used my regular foot- but if you are someone who does well with your walking foot you might want to use it- a little wider seam allowance (i use a 3/8"- just under 1/2")
it is a polyester knit- and does have stretch so you want to smooth-not stretch it out of shape....which is why some people use lots of pins.

I do seem to have better luck using my walking foot! But have used a regular foot as well, but reduced the pressure on the foot. Yes lots of pins and a ball point needle in your machine.

Glad you posted this Dolyphn, I will be watching all the suggestions. Have some minky I want to use in a project.

I just finshed a quilt with minky. I used my walking foot. Got as close to 1/4 inch seam, lots of pins n ironed seams open. I made a mistake tho, I had the raised dot minky and when I ironed I ironed the raised dots flat....oh well just more texture now in the quilt. I wasn't thinking lol.

I use a walking foot and it seems to go pretty smoothly.

I just used minky for the backing on a very small (20"x20") and LA'd it...it turned out great! No extra pinning except what I usually do and no problems...I am still stunned!

I think a roller foot would work well too.
