Hi! I am looking into using a one of the really cuddly/soft fabrics for my niece-to-be's very first quilt. Has anyone used Minky "Ripple" (I am looking at it on Fabric.com) or do you have a recommendation? Is it quilt-able? Or does it look funny with quilting?

i love using minkee fabrics for the back of quilts...did the first one 5 years ago.
the kids call them the 'get-naked' blankets because they are so amazingly soft!. they quilt beautifully. the only things to think about are:
1) the edges (after being cut) are -messy- take it outside & give a good shake before using.
2) there is a stretch. make sure you smooth the fabric, but don't stretch it.
3)the (wrong-side) is kind of slippery. i used batting in mine but some people don't like them that warm...heavy.
i found the batting just helped hold everything (plus added extra weight/warmth) but any fusable interfacing could be used, or flannel...or really you do not have to use anything if you would like it to be more lightweight.
4) once you make one...everyone is going to be asking why theirs doesn't have that backing....but it is expensive!

I am thinking about using this as a backing. Glad you asked :)

Glad to hear that.

Thanks ckcowl for the tips!! Chuckling over "get naked"--cute. It is expensive, but I'm not going to need much for the baby blanket. I think I am going to use a layer of flannel in the middle only, so it's "wrappable" in its smallness. Does that make sense?

I made a baby quilt with minky dots for the backing. It turned out really good. I didn't do a lot of quilting on it though. To me, it kept the look of the minky better with minimal quilting.

I found it harder to work with, but beautiful when finished.

Is binding trickier?
