Minty fresh!

I'm sure you clever ladies already know this one, but just in case...

I got a new iron recently, with a nice stainless steel faceplate. I had some bits of homemade starch cooked onto it (and you should have seen the mess on my old iron!) but I was able to successfully clean both irons using white toothpaste. It was so easy and very effective. It's basically just a fancy version of a bicarb-and-water paste, I suppose, but with a nice minty smell! ;)

Thank you for this tip! I have used salt on a paper bag, I have used wax paper.

I have used toothpaste to clean the headlights on my car, so that makes sense! To clean my iron, I have used baking soda and vinegar.

Thanks for the great idea and you get a nice smell too.

Never even thought about this! Thanks for sharing. I learn something all the time here.

Clever. I recall my mother using the wax paper type liner from our boxes of Rice Krispies, Wheaties or Cheerios. Seemed to do the trick. Early re-purposing without even knowing it!

I use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on mine..............works great, but toothpaste is always handy.

I use fusible web when I make doll clothes and often need to clean my iron before I start a quilt. I was watching a YouTube quilting Video and the lady suggested cleaning an iron by ironing over a dryer sheet several times. I tried it and love it. It removed bits of the fusible glue and left my iron with a nice slick feeling.
