some of these maybe old hat for some but I found a couple i hadn't heard of:
1]Seam allowance....when 2 seams will be joined together, press the seam allowance in opposite directions. This helps distribute the bulk.

2] Feed dogs...if your machine doesn't allow you to drop the feed dogs place/tape a business card over the feed dogs for free motion quilting.

3]Pressing...after pressing piece work allow it to cool for a minute, prevents distortion.

4]Glue Sticks....store in the frig. this keeps them firmer and they will last longer, espically in warmer climates.

I did not know that about the glue sticks, thank you!!! Mine have been drying out way before they are used up :D:D:D

I keep glue sticks in a ziploc with a damp sponge. That seems to keep them from drying out.

I put a piece of saran wrap over the glue stick before putting on the cap. It helps to keep a film of dried glue from forming on the stick, less waste.

After pressing, put something heavy on top of the block while it cools. Helps to keep it's shape.

I live in the high desert, low humidity. Our LQS suggests putting our threads in a zip-lock with a spritz of water. She said they dry out and break if you don't. I haven't done it....thought it wasn't necessary. The other day, I had a thread that was breaking a lot, put it in a zip-lock, spritzed it and waited overnight....sure enough --- it quit breaking!!!

Please tell what you use the glue stick for?

I mostly use my glue sticks for things like applique, temporay holding the fabric until you are ready to sew.

glue sticks are also useful to bind your quilts. there is a great tutorial on youtube.

I keep my glue stick in the fridge and then forget it's there, lol.

Love the glue stick tip!!! I have one that a friend told about. She used 1/4inch tape on her blocks and just stitches right on top of it. Then she just pulls off the tape. Straight lines every time.

I use a wallpaper seam roller for my seam presser, works great.

I dab a little glue on the center sq of a paper pieced log cabin block to hold it in place. Also for other tiny 1st pieces in PP.

Mark a tomato (pin cushion) with a sharpie marker for the different needle sizes. Then, as you change machine needles that are still good to use, you can stick them in the appropriate spot on the tomato. I saw these sold at ConnectingThreads but it is easy enough to do yourself.

Thank you, I am taking a PP class and will go up and put a glue stick in with my supplies right now or I will forget. I also read sometime ago somewhere, if you take your tracing wheel and go over the lines before sewing that is is easier to fold and tear. The instructor told me I had taught her something. I did it and it does help alot.
