If you meet in Independence, MO I am all for it. I live in Blue Springs and could make it. As long as you guys don't mind me bringing my two kids. Getting a babysitter is hard and I can't be away from my son for more than an hour because of Breast feeding and He has mommy itis. I have a perfect location for us to meet if you want to meet near 70 Hwy in Independence. We can even bring our machines and sew on those white plastic tables if we wanted to. My church owns some grounds that have a large conference center that would be great. Plus it is near food. I would just have to check the dates. On Mondays we have a mommy play group that meets there in the morning.

If you meet in Indep MO, is KS invited? I live about 50 miles from Indep. Depending on the date, I would enjoy meeting and getting ideas. Still timid about sewing around anyone else.

sahm4605 05-06-2010 11:44 AM

I don't blame you. I am scared to death of going to a local quilting group. Have one at a senior center by my house. The senior center people can be quite mean to those who are not white or almost white-gray haired people. Had one lady tell me that I wasn't supposed to be there using the bathroom because I was under 50. This with having my DD who was 1 1/2 at the time.

FunkyMonkey 05-06-2010 12:46 PM

I wish I lived closer, I used to live in Garden City Mo.. but now I live in illinois and am closer to st louis. Take pics if you do this and make sure you post them.

memathomas 05-07-2010 06:03 AM

every quilter and seamstress is invited KC that means you
FunkyMonkey this can be a get together that can travel next time maybe we can meet in Columbia that would be fun too NO One should be lift out

LoisN 05-07-2010 06:10 AM

I live in Hannibal (the NE corner of Missouri) but I retire in 3 more weeks, so traveling won't be too much of an issue. I've got a friend in St. Joe, so might make a trip to the western edge of MO for a quilting/visiting adventure. I'll keep watching the board.

BTW, my quilt guild is very inviting. Either that, or I just didn't pay any attention when I joined in September. haha.

sahm4605 05-07-2010 12:03 PM

We should pick a date so we can all make arrangements. and also decide where we want to meet for lunch. also should have a list to sing up for this. that way we can forewarn where ever we go.

sahm4605 05-08-2010 06:50 PM

I am up for either dates. The ones in the Independence area really close to I 70. well kind of. Memathomas, I am having a hard time reading your post. not sure if it is because of lack of sleep or what. Have we chosen a city yet? Where ever we meet we should make sure that we keep it close to the hwy. Just for convenience and simplicity. I don't know about anyone else but I have trouble with directions. if we are going to Independence the two shops that are close are the quilting station and another one that is on 40 hwy, I can't remeber the name at the moment. Quilters Station is a good size and the other is a small one, but has a lot of fabric. Anyone else in the area know of any others? I am always looking for new places to check the stashes.

memathomas 05-08-2010 10:34 PM

every one tell me where you would like to meet and the most votes wins we have 9 people going so we can car pool i vote for Mexico i can fit 4 or 5 in my car
memathomaas

crossginny 05-09-2010 03:42 AM

I vote for Mexico and can fit 5 in my minivan.
We could meet in Kingdom City (right on I-70) and car pool from there to Mexico.
Ginny

sahm4605 05-09-2010 03:02 PM

I vote for Independence, but that is because i can't drive more than 45 min in any direction. went to the campus of CMSU in Warrensburg and wanted to shoot myself. the kids cried all the way there and back. But if you guys hit somewhere else I will have to wait for the next trip out. depending on how far away it is.

we can worked it out whoever lives close to independence can pick u up and car pool if that's agreeable
mema

memathomas 05-10-2010 05:22 AM

we have been looking at the map and decided that we should do lunch in independence this time and we can plan for the next time because we will need two people that are willing to drive the shop hop. i have my husband talked into it but we need one more, and from concordia to mexico via columbia and kingdom city would be about 200 miles round trip that a lot
so what do u think shall we meet this time and shop hop the next time we can meet on the 22nd if thats ok.

memathomas

FunkyMonkey 05-10-2010 05:31 AM

I think Kingdom City is about 3 hours from me.. close to that give or take 15-20 mins.

sahm4605 05-10-2010 05:35 AM

if it is in Independence I am all for it. And the 22nd is great for me. It is not about the drive it is about my kids. My DD could spend the day with my mom but my DS can't he is still on the boob and he doesn't do long trips well yet. about a month ago went to Nebraska Furniture Mart which is like 45 min and he cried both ways the whole time. Had to pull over three times to try and get him calmed down. the last five min he finally fell asleep from exhaustion.

crossginny 05-10-2010 02:26 PM

works for me. : )
You guys all have a great time. I'll be watching the Quiltingboard for the pics!!! : ))

Maybe next time we can do Versailles, there are 2 Amish/Mennonite fabric stores ($3 to $6/yard) about 7 miles one way from Versailles and 2 or 3 reg quilt shops 7 or 8 miles the other direction. : )
We could meet in Versailles, carpool in one direction, come back to Versailles for lunch at Lehman's Mennonite restaurant and then go the other direction to the other shops.
Ginny....in Fulton

Chigger Holler Quilter 05-10-2010 04:53 PM

I would love to join in but will be out of state on both of those dates. Let's set a date later on to meet in Branson! There's a great shop that we could visit as well.

sahm4605 05-10-2010 06:16 PM

crossginny, why can't they be closer to me. I would absolutely love to go there. Just for the prices. Maybe late summer early fall when I ween my son I can get my mom to watch for the day and just bring my dd. or just leave them both, which is the best situation. (horrible I know.)

crossginny 05-11-2010 04:37 AM

late summer/early fall works better for my budget too......you guys who are closer to KC should go ahead and get together now and then we can have a second get together later on.......maybe by planning it now, more would be able to meet later on?? : )
you guys have a great time together in Independence and take lots of pics!!

memathomas 05-11-2010 01:10 PM

OK we are going to postpone it till June and just do lunch and we will plan something that every one can go to i will do my best to help you participate even if we have to pick up people or meet in a central location and car pool

every one pm me and tell me available dates and we will vote
mema

memathomas 05-17-2010 09:52 PM

so sorry i have not been on the board for a little bit

My DD has been told he has Congestive hart Disease
we go Wednesday to Columbia mo for a scope procedure if it's bad they will do surgery if it's he gets med's
also at the same time he was with the doctor i was in the pain clinic getting a shot in my back to kill the pain pinch never in my back. so u can see i have been a little busy

also i am selling my quilting system (janome 1600p and new joy frame)
so we have been answering calls and emails a lady and her sister are coming to take a look Tuesday and someone down south was asking about it both on the board .

i think we can make independence on June 22 if you can make it let me know so i can have a count for the restaurant we will just do lunch to plan our next outing it could even be MC Donnell's so we have more money for fabric i will be going to Jo Ann's after lunch if anyone wants to come, that will be fun too

sahm4605 05-18-2010 06:14 AM

oh boy. yeah. I can also point you too the quilt shops in Independence if you don't already know where they are. So just to be clear we are waiting till June to meet. Not this weekend? Correct?
Sorry to hear about your Son? or is it your daughter? got confused. That is almost a permanent state now a days for me. hehe my grandma has congestive heart failure. Another family member on my dads side had it too. I am not looking forward to getting old because of all the heart problems in my family. many live for 20+ years with it. it will be okay. just stay positive.

memathomas 05-18-2010 08:09 PM

yes june 22 for lunch we can take it from there

see you then
