Mistakes I Made on my Cliffs in Ireland Wallhanging
1 Attachment(s)
Here is my finished wall hanging. My first attempt was quite a learning experience. I want to share my mistakes with you in order to help someone else and, hopefully, they won't make the same mistakes that I did.
1. I didn't make my outside border large enough. That made it very difficult to square it up. (I really should have known better. :o( 2. I didn't make my casing (to hold rod) deep enough. I believe I made this mistake because I worked on the last parts of this wall hanging when I was much too tired and didn't think things through. I believe it will be okay but not the way I intended for it to be. My last effort on this wall hanging was to put some petals on the yellow flowers that were not attached so that there is a 3-dimensional look to them. I liked the way they turned out. Hope this helps others who try this. I know that I will be doing more of these. Loved the process. Yolanda Wood River |

This is gorgeous!
What mistakes? It is just beautiful, I love it.
That is very pretty! Your mistakes (and we'd never know they were mistakes if you hadn't told us) taught you what to do for the next one.
I think it is wonderful. We always judge our own work too harshly. Just stand back and admire the beautiful scene like we do. You did a great job.
If this is your first attempt, I think you did a fantastic job. It's beautiful and you should be very proud of it!
I've found it's true that most of us are overly critical of our own work, for some reason expecting something more than we end up with. I'm learning to step back and look from a slight distance and find that what I deem to be mistakes are simply not the perfection I demand of myself, yet nobody notices it but me. |
Wow !! its beauitful.......fantastic
Your wall hanging is really beautiful. I have never tried anything like that. Thanks for sharing.
That is so very pretty, you did a good job and I believe that not only is every quilt a work of art but that every quilt is a learning quilt as we grow in our knowledge of do's and dont's with each one. I just love your flowers. The red ones remind me of Indian paintbrush flowers.
That's gorgeous! The colors are wonderful, and I love your border fabric.

Thank you to all of you for your very kind and wonderful comments. You are the best! Merry Christmas to all and may all your Christmas dreams come true. Yolanda Wood River

Yolanda, your wall hanging is just lovely. When I look at it, I am seeing a peaceful seaside landscape. Yes, we are way too critical of ourselves. Sometimes, when I am not too happy with my FMQ, I am often surprised how good it looks once I take it off the frame. I learn from every quilt I make. Every quilt is a rehearsal for the next one, smile.

There are no quilt police - your work is just beautiful!
Your piece is lovely but I had to chuckle at your first comment.
The pieces shrink as they get quilted and always end up smaller than they started. I make a point of starting with my background at least 2 inches oversized all around. When it's finished I have the option of cutting off the excess or covering with the framing. Hard lesson to learn. You piece is very moving. I can almost hear the surf. MaryKatherine |
That is unbelievable!! I wish I had the talent and guts to attempt something like that!
Wonderful Quilt! We all live and learn, life would be so boring if we were perfect!
The quilt is BEAUTIFUL! I see no mistakes. My only addition - if I may make one like yours - is adding my two youngest sons standing on the cliffs.
I love your quilt. |
Wonderful quilt and very pretty, you did a good job and it is very pretty.
Beautiful quilt.
Lovely wall hanging. Thanks for the reminders - the kind of thing that's easy to do.
Your wall hanging is gorgeous -- great depth and perspective. Love the sky and water fabric esp. how they blend and contrast at the same time. I wold be very proud to hang that on my wall!
I love making art quilts and wall hangings -- they grow on you. |
It is still a wonderful undertaking with excellent results. Merry Christmas.

Recognizable as the "Cliffs of Moher". I have a photograph that shows this perspective. Nice
I'd call them design choices! That quilt is beautiful!
very nice work bravo
It's quite lovely. No one will notice that 1. the border is not what you intended (unless you tell them and you shouldn't say anything more than "thank you" to compliments, 2. ditto #1, or maybe you can remove and redo it? 3. it's lovely and you should be proud if this is your first project.

It is beautiful. I think if you move the sleeve down a little it will be fine. We usually attach them so they don't show above the quilt. I love it!
Yeah all those mistakes!! I think you should send it to me so you don't have to look at them. I'll PM you with my address. I would hate to have you suffer...But really, thanks, it's nice to learn from others mistakes so hopefully you have a smoother time of it.

It is a lovely wall hanging! Kudos to you for persevering to the finish! :)

We r our worst critics ... It is gorgeous!!!
